Hey! I moved! It was awful!
Not for any terrible reasons, mind you. We hired movers, and they did great. But when they showed up, I didn’t have everything packed. A lot of things. Most things even. But there was stuff that I just hadn’t had the chance to get to. So they moved all of the boxes and our big furniture, and then I went back to the old apartment to finish up packing.
And then I packed for five more hours.
I had no idea just how much was still left. It looked like so little. But it was so, so much. It probably didn’t help that it was a thousand degrees outside, and I was sweating so much I basically became liquid like that senator from the first X-Men movie.
But the plus side? Now that it’s all said and done? We’re in a (comparatively) massive place. It’s so nice to have a room to put the computer, desk, printer, book shelves, books, and have the bed and dressers BE IN A SEPARATE ROOM. We have enough room now that we can set up a SIX FOOT foldout table and everyone can COMFORTABLY SIT AROUND IT. We played D&D last Saturday, and it was magical having so much room for everyone to put their stuff and still be able to get up and down as needed.
We’re still not completely unpacked. Most of my books are still in boxes, as are most of our movies. There’s a few portable drawer sets that are still stuffed full of random stuff that needs to be sorted. And we have some boxes of kitchen and office stuff that needs to be unpacked. But we’re basically settled in.
For comparison, I’ve added a picture of our old place on the left, and a picture of the new place on the right.
The old place served us well — we lived there for about 4 years — but we’ve really outgrown it. It’s nice to start a new chapter in our lives.
Other cool things have happened as well! My wife is officially on disability, which is a HUGE relief financially. And I’m officially starting a new job soon! It’s all big changes at the Casa del Dow.
Now that I have an office, I think I’ll have an easier time working on things — blog posts, writing, D&D stuff. Just, basically anything creative — since I won’t have a TV hovering right above my head to distract me.
How are things in your life? Going well? Any cool updates you want to share?
Until next time!
